Last Day of Summer School Etc.

Today was the last day of summer school. I had one student. We had to stay two extra hours to clean up even though there was nothing really do clean up. I scheduled my Zoom meeting about renewing my ESOL emergency certification for that time, which was good because my situation was complicated. So complicated that the certification person at the district spent most of the time on the phone with the state Department of Education about my situation. Long story. Her co-worker had to finish up with the others in the Zoom meeting. It got resolved though--I just have to keep doing what I'm doing, basically.

I went to the Democracy Dinner at the Philly Ethical Society. It was cool, but it was a little impersonal. I wanted to talk to the presenters and meet people. It seemed to be more about nonprofits' networking than I expected. No worries. The professor from Sunday's talk was there--I kinda wanted to ask him about his contacts again, but he left early. I got to practice my listening in Spanish, which was awesome.

I randomly took some time to watch Gift, the old Perry Farrell and Casey Niccoli movie. I hadn't seen it in I don't know how long. I had it on VHS once--that's how old it is and I am, haha. They were such a cool couple. It made me really miss my younger days.

Several years ago, I saw an old friend, G, for the first time in years and years. We were friends and more in high school. And for a period of time at some point after high school. I kinda always had a crush on him. When I saw him several years ago, I remember telling him that he reminded me of my real authentic self. Gift kind of did that too. (I just have to ignore what Perry Farrell turned into.) I should keep up with that creative side of myself.

Not the drugs part, of course. I did my share of partying and then some back in the days I was about 16 to when I was 23 when L died. That was the end of that life for me.

Three weeks off from teaching is pretty cool.
