I need to get better titles, I know. Today I woke up feeling much better. I ate normally. I did my usual morning routine with my zoo and then went to another book talk at the Philadelphia Ethical Society. This one was about The Big Flip by a UPenn professor, Dr. Andrew Ifedapo Thompson. The book is about the prospect of minorities in the US outnumbering the white majority in the future. His talk was good--being me, I couldn't resist buying the book and getting it autographed. There was a musical guest, Makeshift Hammer, too--nice balance.

I asked the professor if he had any contacts that might help me out with my dissertation research. He said he'd email me a list. Fingers crossed.

My plan was to go to Main Point Books after to get the other book I will be reading with my mother and godmother. However, my car wouldn't start. I tried a jumpstart and changed my key fob battery, but I ended up having to have it towed home. Maybe it's the starter? I'll call the mechanic tomorrow. I got a ride set up for work tomorrow.

The tow truck driver seemed a little sketchy--but interesting. The last one I met like a year ago seemed prejudiced against immigrants and Spanish speakers--yuck. The one today said he was Boricua. He'd spent some time in jail and told me about his prison ink. I asked him if the prison/justice system was unfair (a leading question, I guess), and he said yes. He told me that some of the guards in the big prisons were racists. He said he earned $22.50 a month doing hard labor there. I don't know what he did or his situation then, but the fact that the guards are racists etc. is terrible.
